Hyder have a two fold interest in systems management tools for the VME environment. The first was to be able to monitor service states of the various components of a multi-platform based application for which VME was the odd one out. The second was to move system maintenance and monitoring from reactive to proactive mode using HP's Open View as a manager of managers.This talk is about the pitfalls and successes of the trial and use at Hyder of BMC Patrol this year. Ian hopes to touch on future product direction, i.e. filling in the Gaps for our requirements.

Ian has had a passing acquaintance with VME at a number of site since 1983 and is currently responsible for the VME support team at Hyder in Bridgend, where he has worked for two years.
